November of 2017.  Boo passed away.  We brought him in what appeared to me to be choking.  The staff was very uncaring and rude, after hearing that we had to use care credit.  Due to it being a weekend and evening. As well as friend offering to call in money for care, which they coldly would NOT accept.  They sent Boo home with some medication, claiming he had an upper respiratory infection and trachea issue.  I asked about WHY they weren't giving him and antibiotic.  And was told-it was NOT needed. I am an owner since childhood, of these precious souls-so I KNOW antibiotics are required.  I questioned why they said he looked better, when he clearly was NOT.  They said they used oxygen, and he had improved.  I called approx. 45 minutes later, to be told I needed to come back, and pick up the antibiotics. The girl was extremely rude.  Due to the misdiagnoses (Boo WAS in fact choking).  He passed away.  He suffered 3 days in ICU, from ingesting a coin, while out assisting me. He did NOT have to die.  The coin had time to dissolve, and Zinc poisoned him.  They were told about the incident.   When THEY CAUSED HIS DEATH.  Care Credit said that the bill was removed. Because I asked them NOT to pay the Vet.  As Boo was NOT helped adequately.   Currently, companion animals are considered "property." . We need a law, that protects them.  Companion animals are capable of feelings. They feel love, loyalty, pain, and grief.  We care for them, provide food, love, vaccinations, shelter, and suffer when they are sick/injured or pass away. A strong bond forms, between the companion animals, and their person(s).  Yet when any injustice is done, there is no law protecting their rights.  If they are injured, or die due to negligence.  Their are no consequences, to the guilty party.   Also, many veterinarians turn away sick or injured animals.  In cases of misdiagnoses due to discrimination on financial status, many deaths occur.  Veterinarians - like medical doctors-are supposed to assist in healing companion animals-especially in an emergency situation.  In many cases, people come in with injured animals, taken off guard by the incident-they don't have money in hand at the time of visit.  Boo was misdiagnosed - due to a vet misdiagnosing him-he died.   There is nothing that I was able to do.  I was told the most that happens is the Vet would have to replace Boo, and pay court fees. In the end it would NOT be worth it.  Replace a companion animal-would YOU want to? It is NOT possible to just replace a loved one.  Boo was family.  You have to be an animal lover and guardian, to understand the impact this incident had on me.  This is unacceptable to Animal rights, and the Owner's rights as well.
