Infrastructure is an essential element to the landscape and fabric that makes up the United States. During these historic times, where 30 states and over 255 million people are affected by stay at home orders, we have an ability to improve roads, bridges, and other key elements to our society.

Improving roads and other infrastructure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during this time of social distancing makes sense in a number of different ways.

First, it makes financial sense. A significant drop in motorists on the roads means that contractors who are hired can work at a faster and more efficient pace due to less traffic. Additionally, the loss of commerce due to traffic jams would be significantly reduced.

Second, and most importantly, it would save lives. In 2018, according to workzonesafety.org, there were 748 Fatalities in work zones. Shifting work to this time of social distancing would help curtail those deaths and make it safer for our construction workers on the roads.
