Citizens for a fair Oklahoma started this petition to Governor Stitt

It is unfair and illogical that the State of Oklahoma punish the unemployed by removing their federal benefits early.

1. Most of the unemployed Oklahomans that are going to be affected are the self-employed, gig-workers, and freelancers. This segment of the population should be excluded from the opt- out because they were not employed as regular employees in the first place and most likely will not be employed by traditional companies in the future.

2. Oklahoma should not opt out due to the financial devastation it will create for these people. They were supposed to get benefits until September 4, 2021, and many have planned out career switches to take place by then.  This will only create a financial crisis and ensure they cannot meet their career goals.

3. The businesses complaining of not having enough workers are able to complain mainly because of those unemployed card swipes. This is what was supposed to happen as part of the stimulus. Those companies should increase their rate of pay and/or benefits and increase their recruitment efforts rather than remove unemployment benefits.  This is short- sighted and unjust.

4. It is not the State's right to intervene and prevent any benefit given to a United States citizen, regardless of what State they are from.  Federal benefits should not be interfered with by any agency.  If this sort of measure is accepted, perhaps next it will be our Federal tax returns, or any future stimulus.
