John Ulinick started this petition to Governor Sisolak

While all K-12 schools are closing for 3 weeks, child care centers are under no mandate to close. Child care, unlike all other forms of education are susceptible to COVID-19 as teachers cannot practice social distancing the way all other forms of education can. We practice hand washing all day long as educators and we attempt to teach the children in our care to do the same, however, it is not perfect. Plus classrooms in daycares are small and usually at capacity and crowded, it is impossible to maintain 6 feet of distance with young children and usually there is only one teacher for all these students. You cannot prevent the spread if you don't close these as well?

You are putting the 200,000 teachers at potential risk of infection. While it is true that the risk to children is low, it is equally true that they can be carriers. This places our workforce at an increased risk of exposure.

We understand the burden this would cause to families across Nevada, but it is the right thing to do. You have major casinos closing down temporarily to prevent spread losing billions but daycare centers and preschools are allowed to remain open? Where is the logic? Governor Sisolak should address this immediately to make sure that our workforce does not take the brunt of the virus infection. Passing the responsibility to each individual child care center and not the licensing authority is the wrong move.

Please keep our teachers and children safe so that we may continue to work with children and families in the future and not be a burden on the health care system.
