Kids need to be taught to love the outdoors - otherwise they won't relish their future roles as guardians of nature. Camping encourages this love of nature. It fosters self-confidence, leadership skills and team reliance. Camps across the USA are disappearing leaving fewer places for our young people to safely learn outdoor skills. Camp Westana is one of those places - a place the girls built for themselves and future generations of girls to learn, grow and have fun.
We are a group of local troop leaders, parents, past and present Girl Scouts trying to save our beloved Camp Westana. Our annual cost increased from $5,000 to $25,000 and we cannot afford to pay five times our previous cost. As such, we must either forfeit our camp or purchase the easement with the help of a public entity. In order to do so, we are trying to raise $500,000 by February 1st, 2013
