Due to the COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus) outbreak the hospitality industry is witnessing an unprecedented loss of business from lack of tourism and having to comply with reduced hours in order to mitigate virus spread.

The public is being urged to stay home and self-distance themselves adding to further losses in revenue and wages. And this will only get worse in the coming weeks.

Even more vulnerable to a loss of income are the employees. The chefs, bartenders, wait staff and others who work tirelessly to meet the needs of our tourists. Many are tipped employees who under normal circumstances often must worry about paying for rent, health care and other vital essentials.

Tourism is Florida's single largest industry bringing billions of dollars to the State and in order to protect the very people with whom are an integral part of that revenue, we, the undersigned, call on Governor DeSantis to act now to lesson the financial impact on hospitality industry employees due to COVID-19.

Specifically, we call for $2000 in financial assistance for each employee, a suspension of all rent, mortgage, and utility payments for 2 full months to allow people to do what they need to in order to take care of themselves, their loved ones, and comply with community health requirements.

The legacy of every public official currently serving will be determined in the next few months. You have the power to do something deeply impactful in a time of need. It's time to act now, and choose the right side of history. Please choose the people.
