Operation 1620 started this petition to Governor Pritzker and

On January 1, 2020, the state of Illinois began allowing medical cannabis cardholders to legally grow up to 5 plants. While this has been great during the shortage of dispensary cannabis, many patients have found that the 5 plant limitation has greatly reduced the full potential that cannabis can be used and does not account for crop loss. When bugs, deficiencies and gender cause a plant to be considered useless, then home growers are left in a tight spot. The time and money that was put into personal growing is lost when patients run into these issues.

We want a more clarified policy that allows for better staging and gives patients the ability to grow multiple strains to treat multiple ailments, targeting each ailment appropriately. While we believe that growing a plant is a God-given right to grow (without limitations), we understand that caps are a necessity to discourage large unregulated grow operations.

We are simply asking for the limitations to be increased to allow for:

• zero limitations on cannabis plants under 10”, plus

• 5 non-flowering cannabis plants above 10”, plus

• 5 flowering cannabis plants above 10”

Currently, the law allows for:

• 5 (nonspecific) cannabis plants above 5”

This has been too conservative for many individuals who respond best to higher levels of cannabinoids, like CBD and CBN. A one size fits all type of policy pertaining to homegrow is currently failing our medical cannabis patients. Many patients even have an approved increase in the maximum monthly allowance they can purchase from dispensaries. Why can dispensaries sell more to certain individuals but certain individuals cannot grow more cannabis? This seems unfair, and slanted to help big corporations while being too restrictive for patients - especially in the face of the fact that big corporations left us high and dry - or should we say NOT high and dry?!

Help us make our voice heard that we want to be able to have more flexibility, while still being legal in the eyes of the law!

Help us let legislators know that we want change!

Help us address these unfair limitations!
