Unleash the Promise of Liberty State Park

Unleash the Promise of Liberty State Park

Since 1977, Jersey City communities have waited for the Liberty State Park (LSP) that was promised to them - a place for everyone to play safely, experience culture, appreciate nature and create jobs. But, for 45 years, the original plan for Liberty State Park, and the voices of the local community, have been ignored.
Today, 235 acres or 40% of LSP remains polluted and fenced-off. Although the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has committed to cleaning and restoring this contaminated land, a tiny but very vocal number of “preservationists” called the Friends of Liberty State Park, that do not represent the communities surrounding LSP, are fighting to block the clean-up of toxic land to make LSP a preserve through the deceptively termed legislation -The Liberty State Park Protection Act (A-2189/S-1449).
Passage of the Liberty State Park ‘DECEPTION’ Act will forever block the toxic cleanup and improvements in LSP promised to our community 45 years ago.
We urge you to join local community leaders, parents and children working toward a LSP that will:
- GIVES ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS A VOICE IN THE FUTURE OF LSP
- PROVIDES RECREATION AND SPORTS FACILITIES KIDS NEED
- CREATES CULTURAL AND BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE COMMUNITY
- PROVIDES LOCAL TRANSPORTATION TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO LSP
Block the Liberty State Park ‘DECEPTION’ Act (A-2189/S-1449) and make Liberty State Park “our” Park – the center of activity, culture, and opportunity the Jersey City community was promised 45 years ago!!
