Why this petition matters

Started by Minal Santhosh

Recently, BJP state chief of Karnataka has banned students from wearing a hijab to schools and colleges. Hijabi students are not being let inside schools and colleges.

I myself am a student, and watching women being refused to have education just because of their harmless religious practice of wearing a hijab is not something I will standby. If hindus who wear bindi, sikhs who wear turbans were refused to have education then everyone would stand up for it. Why should we let this happen with the hijabi women when we wouldn't let it happen with other indian religions? If we allow this outrageous law to be further enforced, the honour of our constitution will be betrayed.

Freedom of religion in India is a fundamental right guaranteed by Article 25-28 of the Constitution of India. Every citizen of India has a right to practice and promote their religion peacefully. By refusing hijabi students from education because of their harmless religious practice of simply covering themselves in accordance to their religion, BJP state chief of Karnataka, Nalin Kumar Kateel, has wronged the laws of the Constitution. And he must therefore be removed from power.

If this petition has enough support, we can change the future of this state. We have seen what we needed to see, and it is important to understand that we cannot leave the government in the wrong hands. If Nalin Kumar Kateel is removed from power, we will be setting an example that we are not going to stand with oppression of religion.
