The Connecticut Department of Health, Governor Ned Lamont and the CIAC have decided not to allow High School Football this season due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus. They have not cited any specific metrics or reasoning for not allowing football, while allowing other sports such as soccer and field hockey.

The CIAC released a statement Friday Sept. 4th “Without DPH support, the CIAC cannot move forward with a full contact season as it would place superintendents and boards of education in the impossible position of acting against the recommendation of a state agency. As such, the CIAC Board of Control, in alignment with DPH recommendations, has determined that high risk full contact football is no longer a viable option.”

The CIAC has also stated that no fall sports will be moved to the spring, while giving no explanation for their decision.

The decision to not allow High School sports has a far reaching effect beyond simply playing the games. These student athletes have dedicated their lives to their sport and some may have had the chance to play in college. Those hopes will be gone for most Seniors who won't have a chance to get recruited without a season.

I am asking for your support to convince the powers that be to have an open conversation with all parties and set guidelines and metrics that, if met, would allow High School Football to be played.
