The Governor Mifflin School District has recently proposed and communicated their reopening plan for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Students are given two options- either attending school full-time, five days a week, and in-person, or going completely virtual. Several neighboring districts have incorporated a hybrid method, which utilizes both in-class and online learning. Some schools have divided their students into groups, each attending on different days of the week to limit the number of individuals in a building at once. The Governor Mifflin School District has failed to consider their students and staff. As a student at the district, I have seen classrooms of up to thirty-four students. Social distancing will become impractical with the volume of students in the building at a time. Staff is already put in enough risk, and not being able to comply with CDC guidelines will endanger everyone who enters the building. The Governor Mifflin School District has to revisit their plan and consider the lives and well-being of the students, parents, educators, and staff. I, along with most students, are eager to return to school, but under PROPER and SAFER conditions.
