Johanna Heberlein started this petition to Governor Mifflin School Board and Administration

We call on the Governor Mifflin School Board and Administration to address the security risks at the entrance of Cumru Elementary.  We are concerned that an individual can enter this school too easily and have access to students before even entering the office to check-in.  In order to deter this type of event, additional security measures should be instituted either during or prior to a guest's (non student or faculty member's) entry into the school.  Some suggestions that have been raised are:

  • A second set of doors creating a vestibule that would not open until identity is verified
  • Eliminating options for guests to bypass the office by creating a single entry option for all non-students and faculty
  • Creating training programs for staff tasked with granting entry to guests that would aid in them identifying potential threats
  • Other methods of deterring unwanted entry into the school during educational hours as recommended by a security professional or consultant experienced in identity verification and deterring unwanted entry

Cumru is a great school with wonderful teachers and staff who do a wonderful job representing our community and teaching our children.  We seek a combined effort from the school board, administration, safety officers, teachers, parents and community members to provide all of us with the best tools we can to do their jobs with confidence in the school's safety.

Seeking the following timeline: Project to be planned, funded and underway by Summer break 2019.
