Play It Again Sports started this petition to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and

Governor Grisham,

We write this with the greatest respect as we can only imagine how difficult it must be during this season of elections and covid.

We own a local sporting goods store in Las Cruces and speak with parents and children on a daily basis. The information we are gathering is heart wrenching and atrocious at best.

The shutdown of not only schools, but all athletics for children has become unbearable for MOST. New Mexico is now the FIFTH highest in suicide rates among children with 16 of every 100,000 children committing suicide. This is 16 too many and absolutely awful. Parents and children alike are suffering and it’s completely unnecessary.

If gyms (indoors), Walmart (indoors), and anything of the like can be open, WHY can’t children play baseball on a huge open field? We can’t parents socially distance on their own lawn chairs?! WHY can’t athletes play soccer again OUTDOORS and parents responsibly socially distance?!

The ‘control’ aspect has become far beyond anything it ever should have, and if the legal age of adulthood is 18 and the legal age to drink 21... than certainly parents of children of their OWN should be allowed to make the decision for their children to PLAY if they see it in their best interest.

It is TIME, actually way past time for our children to be playing again. This has gone on long enough (too long) we’ve lost too many children already and it must stop. Children NEED to PLAY and parents need their children full of life and exercising again. Computer screens are proven harmful for children, yet their forced to stare at them everyday.

Enough is simply enough. We petition you to take this to SPEAK UP for the children! This is not about politics. This is not about anything other than the need to save our children. It’s time.
