New Mexico is as a state largely dependent on the tourist industry for it’s economic welfare. In this era of COVID, the governor has placed very tight restrictions on New Mexico, including a fourteen day quarantine for anyone entering New Mexico. Though we understands the governor wants to keep New Mexicans safe from COVID, the long term economic effects of the restrictions are severe. And the fourteen day quarantine is a big contributor to that economic damage. Considering that New Mexico is matching up with the average infection and death rate per capita for all of the United States, the chances for infection of COVID coming from outside of New Mexico are as high as the infection chances within New Mexico. Which makes the fourteen day quarantine an unnecessary burden on New Mexico’s economy. We therefore ask Governor Michelle Grisham to lift the fourteen day COVID quarantine.
