On Friday, April 13, Matt Bevin took his right wing rhetoric to a new level. In response to advocacy by teachers in his state to harmful pension benefit cuts, a tax plan that raises taxes on 95 percent of Kentuckians and a state budget for includes cuts to preschool, textbooks and higher education (among other cuts) Gov. Bevin decided to blame teachers.
In fact, because more than 3 dozen school districts had canceled school to advocate, Bevin said he was certain that some child “was sexually assaulted” or ingested “some poison” because teachers weren’t in their classrooms to monitor them.
Teachers are not babysitters and are not responsible for hypothetical crimes. Demand Gov. Bevin apologize for his ridiculous remarks, for politicizing sexual assault and for trivializing the experiences of those who have been assaulted.
