There are over 3000 families on this waiting list, waiting to receive childcare assistance in the form of a sliding fee scale. The wait is currently TWO years, and could be longer. Hennepin County is the only county in MN with thousands of parents waiting. These families are not asking for a handout, if granted this assistance they would pay a portion of the cost based on their income, and they would need to be working or attending school.
We are asking Mark Dayton to make childcare a priority, as MN already has some of the highest childcare costs in the country, and supporting this program ensures that children will have access to quality childcare, their parents/caregivers will be able to work or attend school; therefore bettering their own financial status and the Twin Cities economy. Until a few years ago, the state funded this program and eliminated the waiting list every summer, this has not been happening in recent years. Please sign this petition, make some noise, and ask our Governor to please make childcare in Hennepin County a priority! Even if you don't live the county, but you believe childcare is a priority, you can help support this effort by signing this petition, and sharing it with friends. Hopefully we can make some positive change! You can also contact media outlets, or call/message the governor directly at: http://mn.gov/governor/contact-us/ Thanks for your support!!
UPDATE: 7/15/13. Governor Dayton's office have confirmed that they received the petition about a week ago. NOW is the time to contact the office and let them know that funding the hennpin county childcare assistance program matters to YOU. Please call or email the governor's office and help support this effort one last time! THANK YOU!!!!!!
