Face coverings and physical distancing are the two most important steps citizens can take to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Unfortunately, an approach in which citizens are only encouraged--but not enforced--to wear face coverings in public spaces and private businesses has had disastrous results.  In fact, today (07/02/2020) Idaho's cases are up 682% compared to just two short weeks ago according to an NPR analysis.

Yet, many citizens continue to ignore sound guidance in order to prevent transmission.  Although our state government has issued mandatory order regarding maximum sizes of gatherings and occupancy of certain businesses/venues, the Gem State is failing its duty to protect the health of its citizens by not enforcing the second most valuable at our tool to fight the pandemic:  face coverings.

This isn't a partisan issue.  The virus doesn't care who you vote for.  The virus doesn't care how old you are.  The virus DOES care about its ability to infect new hosts.  Face coverings help prevent the virus from performing that task.

A hodgepodge approach of certain cities mandating coverings cannot work.  Our communities are interconnected, and an outbreak in one town will eventually find its way to another.

We need a statewide comprehensive approach to help our state slow the transmission of a deadly virus.  I am asking for your signature to petition Governor Brad Little to issue an Executive Order mandating face coverings in public places and private businesses.

Encouragement is not enough; our exploding daily numbers have proven that method dangerously ineffective.  It is time to take serious action to help slow and prevent the spread of this disease.  Please join me in signing for the sake of your health, your family's health, and our communities' health.
