Drew Orton started this petition to Governor Kathy Hochul and
Former Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo made them illegal before we new the devastating effects of Covid.
Can we have our single use recyclable sanitary plastic grocery bags back so we dont have to keep bringing germs home and spreading them from various stores to our homes and babys and elderly family members ?
It's really that simple.
Reasons Why:
- They are recycable.
- 95% of reusable bags are made in China
- Plastics Carbon footprint is better (University of Oregon Study and others)
- Paper bags take up to 9 times the landfill space and break down at the same rate as single use plastic.
- Reusable bags ar not sanitary and carry bacteria ,E Coli and other contaminants.
- Cost of washing bags for NYS 20+ Million residents for just five minutes of water usage can ad up to Billions of dollars. Californias 12 Million estimated at $1.5 Billion dolars in water waste.
- People dont wash them per Cleveland Cilnic Study leading to Bacteria because of warm weather and meat juices. A 2019 report on a microbiological study of reusable bags showed a food poisoning risk from Samonella, E-coli and Listeria in the 30 bags they analyzed. There were also reports of bacteria with antibiotic resistent profiles. The use of these bags for things other than transporting groceries (using them as diaper bags or for dirty gym clothes, for example), could increase the exposure to MRSA. Additionally, black mold and yeast can also be found in the reusable bags.
- Cost only hurts the poor.
- They are my favorite dog poop tool
