AE Anderson started this petition to Office of the Governor Governor John Bel Edwards

The White House has recently labeled Louisiana as a hotspot for COVID-19, with Louisiana ranking 1st per capita for cases. As a result, Louisiana is stuck in Phase 2 and unable to move on. As part of Phase 2 guidelines, indoor gatherings have been capped at 50 people. Nevertheless, schools are to begin reopening as soon as August 10th. We are not ready.

Traditional schooling is not conducive to preventing the transmission of COVID-19. Even with a hybrid version, there will still be way more than 50 people in a school at any given time. This will cause mass transmission of COVID. There are no precautions that we can put into place that will prevent this. Students, teachers, and support staff will contract the virus, and might possibly die.

This petition is calling on Governor John Bel Edwards to either push back the start date of school until the curve has flattened or to order that school be fully virtual until at least January or until the curve has flattened.

One student death is too many. We should not be experimenting with our children’s health.
