The parole committee made a mistake and now my kid's father isn't coming home.

Years ago, Roman, my daughter's father, made a terrible mistake that landed him in prison. Now the parole board responsible for his case has also made a mistake. Now our whole family is paying the price for their error. Let me explain.
Roman was arrested and charged with 2 counts of attempted murder after shooting the legs of two armed men who were chasing him after a verbal altercation. He's served 10 years in prison so far, and has learned the hard way that violence solves nothing. If he could go back in time , he would. The next best thing is to learn from our mistakes, and make better decisions going forward.
While incarcerated, Roman has earned his GED and is currently taking carpentry classes so that he will have a marketable skill when he's released. He's demonstrated "good behavior" -- when he's not in class, he works out, reads, and avoids trouble.
In 2013, he met with the prison committee and was granted a parole date of March 20th, 2018. Our daughter was overjoyed. She's always been daddy's girl and immediately looked forward to celebrating her "Quinceanera" (Sweet 15) with her father present.
This February, Roman was informed that the parole committee made an error when they reviewed his case four years ago. They said he wouldn't be released until 2023.
Our family was stunned and heartbroken when we got the news. My daughter was shattered to learn that not only would her father miss her Quinceanera, but he wouldn't be coming home at all for another six years. She no longer wants to celebrate her Sweet 15. The only reason she wanted one was because she wanted to dance with her father. She has been dealing with depression for years due to her father's absence. I'm afraid now her depression will worsen.
Our family believes in Roman. We've watched him mature and change over the years. We know that he's ready to rejoin society and become a productive member of his community. his family will be there to support him all the way.
Please sign this petition and help ensure our voices are heard by Governor Jerry Brown and the prison parole board. Tell them to honor their original parole date and give Roman his freedom in 2018.
