A Dream for Justice and Peace

My name is Sabah Algazali and I have a dream. I have a dream that one day justice, peace, love, and respect will prevail in my culture. I have a dream that this day will come soon so that bloodshed and honor killings will be a thing of the past.

Google my name along with the title "Murder in the Foothills" and you will be able to read part of my story. Yes, I stand with justice even if it means standing side by side with my maternal uncle (Hafed Thabet), my father's killer. My uncle like myself, is stuck in a culture where everyone takes justice into their own hands. He was a victim of honor killings. I stand for stopping such acts so that peace can be rebuilt between a community of two clans.

Being an American gives me the freedom and courage to make a change and have a voice in the matter. People from my culture are against my revolution, primarily because I am woman. However, I will not be discouraged, I will continue to stand for justice.

The board of parole hearing has found Hafed Thabet (Case #J30663) to be a suitable candidate for parole as many experts have examined and spoken to him and approved his parole. He was analyzed by a psychiatrist who reported that Mr. Thabet is not a danger to society.

The main purpose of this petition is to encourage Governor Jerry Brown to approve Mr. Hafed Thabet’s (Case #J30663) deportation. He has been approved by the board of parole, but we need Governor Jerry Brown’s approval as well. We need as many votes as possible to send to Governor Brown.

I am pleading for your help and support to help me accomplish this dream for the new generation so that honor killings will be put to a stop.
