Why this petition matters

Started by Shantae Ware

The family, loved ones, and friends of Robert Barnes # M04821, are respectfully requesting that you, Governor Pritzker, consider Robert for clemency. In September of 2007, Robert was met with an unfortunate encounter. As he was placed into a situation of protecting his home and family, tragically a life was loss. Robert was tried, convicted, and sentenced to 45 years in prison for murder, in October 2008.

Being incarcerated for thirteen- years has allowed Robert to transform his life through many betterment programs, trade, and educational courses. He has spent his time wisely ensuring that he is reformed and capable of re-entering society as a productive member to the community.

Robert has a support system of family and friends that will ensure his reintegration into society is successful through adequate employment and housing. We believe that Robert is deserving of a second chance to redeem himself and at freedom. Again, Governor Pritzker we respectfully ask you to consider Robert Barnes #M04821 for clemency.

Our support for Robert, by no means, is dismissal for his actions. Nor are we attempting to overlook the life that was lost. Our family continues to keep everyone affected by this ill-fated encounter in our thoughts and prayers.

We are advocating for a second chance, but also for fair justice to be served. We truly believe that Robert did not have a fair opportunity during his trial. We are not saying this simply because he is family, but because of factual evidence that was not brought to light during his time in court.

We ask that you sign this petition and support Robert!
