Petiton for Equal Pool Access

Petiton for Equal Pool Access
Why this petition matters

We, the people demand that Governor Ige and The County have the pools on the Island of Hawai'i opened for the practice of socially distanced team swimming for our local adolescents. For months, it has been illegal for public swim teams to swim in our local pools. This means that athletes in pools across the world are allowed to train while our team is not able to. How are we supposed to achieve our goals when we are not being given equal rights? People with private pools are allowed to use their pools in whatever manners they chose, such as practicing and competing in competitions, while the county pools, such as the Konawaena Pool and the Kona Community Aquatic Center, are only open for socially distanced independent pool users. Swimming in the ocean—our only option—throws out any chance of practical coaching to take place for athletes on the teams which decreases the quality of our our workouts and diminishes the chances of our adolescents earning scholarships. If our local pools are opened for socially distanced team swimming, we will be able to obtain equal rights to pools once more. If we continue to live in this state of inequality, what will become of us? Help us bring back equality and justice!
