Stop the bulldozing of 900 acres of Crownsville, Md. for commercial rezoning.

The 900 acres in Crownsville, Md. that the Chesapeake Bayhawks propose to have rezoned, and bulldozed, to build commercial establishments consists of sensitive waterways that feed into Maryland rivers, Crownsville State Hospital grounds which houses non-profit groups who work for the welfare of Marylands less fortunate,  the self- sufficient and thriving Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, and primitive untouched forests and open space all contributes to and sets an example for the quality of life for generations to come. Not to mention the many varieties of wildlife who have made Crownsville a safe haven for their survival.

Crownsville not only has a history that dates back to the 17th Century, but people who traveled the roads of Crownsville, like George Washington and Francis Scott Key forged Americas history, as did African slaves at Belvoir plantation who held within themselves their visions of freedom that would eventually be realized.

Crownsville is thriving environmentally and historically.  Bulldozing and leveling 900 acres for a vast commercial complex would erase hundreds of years of that which makes Maryland so special.

We ask that the Crownsville Hospital and Anne Arundel Fairgrounds be protected from commercial rezoning and that solutions to its use be confined to its present rural zoning, such as parks, trails, ballfields, picnic areas, bike paths, a historical visitors center, and educational markers to celebrate our many species of wildlife.
