Barriers needed on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for suicide prevention and post 911 concerns
Why this petition matters

There have been numerous suicide attempts within the last couple of months on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and some of those attempts were successful. Many other states have taken precautions and preventative measures by placing barriers, fences or walls on the Bridges and it has significantly reduced the number of suicides. Not only does this help reduce the number of suicides, but this also protects the wellbeing and mental health of the victims, their families and our First Responders that have to go into these situations to rescue, or recover. Not only that, but to know that post 911 that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge's towers can be easily accessed and climbed is extremely concerning and troubling. By signing this petition you are demanding that Governor Hogan, MDTA Executive Director James F. Ports Jr., and the MDTA Board of Directors take this situation seriously and come up with an effective way to block access to the towers, and place fences, or barriers or walls on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
