The judicial and penal system in this State have always been inhumane and unjust, it has always disproportionately punished Black and Brown peoples as well as people of lower income, wealth and status. These injustices and inhumane conditions are only being amplified by the pandemic and our governments failure to adequately respond to the emergency situation taking place in Michigans prisons. Lack of ppe, covid testing, and space to social distance and now, the denial of the vaccine are tantamount to a death sentence for the peoples who are unjustly being held. We not only need to provide these basic life saving measures but need to start commuting sentences and ending pre-sentencing detention immediately!

We can and will do better when we acknowledge the massive problems our prison systems have with this pandemic.

Inmates should be ranked at the same level as nursing home residence and staff. This is a Covid spreader environment. Inmates lives matter too.
