Governor Abbott has banned Texas nurses from working FEMA or state-funded crisis contracts in Texas.  This ban has placed limitations on Texas nurses’ ability to work locally and provide for themselves and their families. This mandate is an attempt only to protect employers from losing staff.  The mandate does not protect the rights of the individuals to work unencumbered in the state in which they reside. Mandates and bills should be aimed at protecting the individuals who provide direct care to those in need.  This mandate is discriminatory against the very nurses that provide care to Texas residents.
