Luis Jauregui started this petition to Governor Greg Abbott and

In the morning hours of August 3rd, the border community of El Paso, Texas suffered a heinous and premeditated act of violence at the hands of one Patrick Crusius, a 21-year-old male who deliberately opened fire upon the innocent citizenry at a local Walmart, leaving twenty dead and twenty-six wounded (as of the writing of this petition). In what can only be described as a vile and cowardly aggression, Crusius intently targeted a busy shopping area during the peak weekend hours resulting in the largest mass shooting in what has, on numerous occasions, been described as the safest city in America.

I respectfully and vehemently appeal to our representatives, government officials, and the people of this great nation to ensure such a despicable event is never again suffered upon our communities. In the last year alone we have seen a distinctive rise in armed violence, particularly mass shootings across the United States; political debates rage as to whether gun control, mental care, or social welfare are to blame yet we continue to sit idly as these individuals take the lives of ordinary Americans. If we are to stop this violent wave of vicious bloodshed an example must be made. Right here. Right now.

In the spirit of solidarity and community I urge our leaders to bring Crusius to justice; not for mass murder, but given his actions were not only purposeful and calculated, but of such extreme brutality I am unable to describe his crimes as anything other than Domestic Terrorism. By setting such legal precedent, we will declare to any who wishes harm upon our nation that Americans will not tolerate violence of this magnitude upon our communities, by ANY enemy, foreign OR domestic.
