Rosie Jones started this petition to Governor Gavin Newsom

My name is Brandon Jones. I've been incarcerated for 12 years, serving 109 years to Life for (2) counts of attempted murder and robbery.  At that point in my life I was only 18 years old, had no moral values and I was trying to be someone I wasn't.  As a result of my youth I engaged in behaviors as a gang member that led me to shooting and harming innocent victims.  Because I wasn't content within myself, I left many families mentally and emotionally scarred for life.  And as a result of my recovery I have come to understand the harm that I not only did to them but also to their families and the community where this crime occurred. I am truly remorseful for my actions and I take full responsibilities.

Since my incarceration, I've been able to connect more and more with my family.  Sitting back and listening as they express themselves to me really opened my eyes.  Leaving my son behind to grow up without a father, my mother stepping in to take care of my responsibilities, and the mother of my son left alone as a single parent to raise our child is heartbreaking.  My son is at the age where his decisions predict his future and I want to be by his side as his support system to steer him in the right direction. They didn't ask for this and I thank God that they continue to support me even when I didn't put them first.

During my incarceration, I've participated in self-help Programs seeking a good understanding as to why I became who I was and what steps to take towards change.  In addition to that I've gained awareness as to how my lifestyle and actions impacted so many more people than I can imagine.  Criminals and GangMembers Anonymous (C.G.A.) helped me with understanding my casualties and the destruction they led to.  I'm currently the Facilitator for C.G.A. and it's part of my amends to give back.  I have also taken the initiative to educate myself by learning different job skills through Vocational Trades that the prison offers as well as Correspondence Courses I've taken through the Palo Verde College.  I have received multiple certificates in areas such as but not limited to Alternatives to Violence Project, Victim Awareness, and Gang Awareness.  The reason being is to prepare myself to present to the Board of Prison Hearing a father, son and a  productive citizen which has become top priorities.

I'm hoping for the support and opportunity to show that I'm a man of moral values that has gained insight into my life and remorseful for the way I lived that harmed so many.  I'm no longer a teenager. I'm grown now and I'm ready to show the Board and the Governor that I'm restored.  I'm now who God intended me to be; a father to my son "Brandon Jones Jr., a son to my mother "Rosie Jones", and of service to my community.

Thank you for your time and support.
