Roxanne Wilson started this petition to Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Public Health

You may or may not be aware that the state of California has legally banned the right to worship or sing during church services. On July 3, 2020, the California Department of Public Health, backed by the governor, banned singing and "chanting" during church services with the excuse that this promotes the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Quite frankly, I am outraged at the blatant attack on churches and people's first amendment right to religious freedom. I am here to demand that Governor Newsom not only reviews this ban, but also reverse it for the protection of human rights.

Do not use Covid-19 as an excuse to silence the church! Especially when there are already requirements for social-distancing in place. If we are already being forced to worship with masks and being 6-feet apart, why then are you also attacking our right to practice our faith through worship?

I do not know of any church in which people are singing directly in someone else's face. Therefore, the assumption that Covid-19 can be spread this way is just that: an assumption!

Please do the right thing and review and reverse this insulting ban. We the people have the right to worship the way it's best during church services. This includes being able to sing!
