Why this petition matters

Started by Sara Kenney

Utah no longer offers a state credit for Electric Vehicles and has also implemented an annual fee on electric vehicle drivers to supposedly cover taxes lost at the gas pump. Utah currently suffers from some of the worst air quality in the country, with more than 50% of the pollution coming from vehicle emissions. We need a clear path forward to convert our vehicles to clean energy and ZERO emissions to improve our air! The State of Utah needs to detach themselves from the fossil fuels industry and traditional car dealers and work with the population to clean up our air.

We are asking Governor Herbert and the State of Utah to:

1. Repeal the fee on EV drivers implemented last year. (SB136)

2. Re-instate the State Tax Credit for purchasing EVs that expired in 2016. This is a bill supported by Rep Stephen Handy, R-Layton. (HB29)

3. Implement more clear path to cleaning up our air quality in Utah, we continue to suffer inversions in the winter and now smoke inversions in the summer that rival the poor air quality in the winter.
