Every year around 4th of July and New Years Eve I see tents come up on many corners of AZ intersections selling consumer fireworks. At the same time many veterans with PTSD, parents with small children, pet owners and shelters around Arizona preparing to weather out up coming celebrations. Public display fireworks are wonderful and safe, however consumer fireworks often not used properly or safely. Many times they are lit up close to residential or commercial dwellings, used after local noise ordinance, before and after allowed dates.
Arizona Legislature 36-1601 allows use of consumer fireworks, however changes need to be made to accommodate many that are struggling with this.
Below are statistics from National Fire Protection Association and Consumer Product Safety Commission. They go couple of years back but as you can see percentage of injury stays pretty consistent each year.
