Remove shut down exemption for Religious Services during this pandemic
I am a Catholic and I am suffering like anybody else in this situation where I can't go to church. But these times call for a higher sense of responsibility and even the Bishop of Miami-Dade strongly told his priests not to conduct any in-person services.
The more we contain now, the less it will drag on. Making many excpetions will certainly make some people happier in the short term but more people will die and it will take longer before the economy will recover.
We have one of the steepest curves of infection in the whole world and running these kind of risks is completely irresponsible. Religious leaders should be the first ones to oppose this decision. They are the ones we look up to for guidance in these difficult times. Even if some churches take precautions, it's too risky and there is nobody to verify which measures are being taken in every single church. In fact, churches are by definition a place where people congregate and therefore they carry a risk that must be avoided.
I urge Governor DeSantis to reconsider his decision and encourage religious institutions to shift to online services.
