Crimes against women in the United States are on the rise.  1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime.  An aggravated assault occurs every 35 seconds, and a sexual assault occurs every 2 minutes.  College age women are 4 times more likely to be assaulted, and two thirds of assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.  The number of crimes against women have increased 3 years in a row.  Women need to know that they have a way out of a situation if they ever feel threatened.  Guns are not for everyone, whether you are pro-gun or anti-gun.  Regardless, women should have an option to protect themselves in any way they feel comfortable doing.  Currently, stun guns which are not to be confused with tazers (tazers shoot projectiles), are only legal in Connecticut inside the home only.  They are not allowed outside the home, and this needs to change so that women can properly protect themselves when outside the home if they are ever attacked.  Stun guns are currently legal in most states, a few with restrictions.  To be clear, a stun gun should only be used for self defense purposes, if being attacked.  Please legalize stun guns fully in the state of Connecticut and allow them to be carried outside the home.

Letter to

Legalize stun guns outside the home in Connecticut for personal safety and self defense for women.
