Hello we are Colin, Bryan, Markos, Sophia, Elijah, Priscila, and Luis. We are 8th graders at University Park Campus School.

We come to you with this petition to support the Student Opportunity Act.  We also encourage you to put aside more money to take into account that there will be an increase in student enrollment next year, as things get safer, and more schools are held in person.   As it stands right now the funding given to all schools is unequal and unfair. Wealthier cities with enough resources to fund their own schools as well as the money they receive from the state have a clear advantage in the quality of education. The Student Opportunity Act is necessary because schools can receive funding leading to more people of color getting better education.  The Student Opportunity Act is now  a 6 year plan that provides $8,800 per low income student when applied. It includes more spending on low-income students, health care, special education, and ELL services. It will help urban communities that have less money to be able to provide the quality education that students in suburban cities receive. This will help Worcester because we will be exposed to more opportunities.   For example we will have better buildings, more teachers, more extracurricular activities, better sports programs, more mental health resources, more classes to choose from, and more guidance counselors.  Please help us to encourage the Massachusetts State Legislature to support the Student Opportunity Act by signing this petition. Thank you.
