There are approximately 10 federally recognized holidays where we get a day off from school to “recognize” or “honor” a specific person, movement, etc. That does not include Inauguration Day. However, Sept. 11th is not recognized as a federally protected day, despite the loss of 2,996 men and women and children who lost their lives in the most terrifying terrorist attack on US soil. Millions watched around the world, as they dove from windows and as a never ending search and rescues ensued to recover the bodies or those lost. I am petitioning to have Sept 11th recognized  as federally protected holiday so we can honor those who lost their lives in a senseless act of violence.
