Governor Baker, stop using the Massachusetts police to collaborate with ICE
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
We are two homeschooled teen girls in Massachusetts with a passion for social justice. Both of us count many immigrant families among our friends. We are concerned for the safety of people we know and care about, and we do not want our state police to help ICE deport our neighbors.
In June of 2016, Governor Charlie Baker changed a Massachusetts policy to allow police to detain immigrants on behalf of ICE. The previous policy did not permit police to collaborate with ICE.
We recognize that the Safe Communities Act (SD.1596 and HD.3052) will prohibit this; however, we are concerned that there will be significant damage done before it is passed and put into effect.
We do not want a country where hard-working Americans, legal or not, are scared to approach police. This law encourages racial and ethnic profiling and undermines the safety of our communities.
No human being is illegal.
