Hello! We are current Trinity School 4th graders researching the NYC subway system. We think that the subway system is important and worth saving for future generations of New Yorkers. We (and others) are writing this petition to you because the subway system is almost always delayed, and we want to fix this issue once and for all.

In the last two months, we learned all about the subway system and its many problems. Subway delays are caused by overcrowding, MTA mismanagement, and problems with the system infrastructure. The wait times for trains are way too long. MTA recently paid some of its employees hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime, and yet the subway has not improved much. Stations and tunnels are in bad shape, and there’s not enough subway cars for the system to run efficiently. Additionally, there’s still outdated mechanical signaling technology (from 1904) in some parts of the system!

Some of the solutions we learned are building more lines and using better materials for stations and subway cars. Building more subway lines would decrease overcrowding in the system, and building more durable subway cars would help increase the frequency of running trains. This would be two relatively easy solutions which would make quite a difference in the near future!

We really appreciate you taking the time to read our letter. These solutions might take time and hard work but in the end, New York commuters will be happy and on time. If you can dedicate some time to fix the New York City Subway system, our subway system would be cleaner and more efficient, and NYC could be a happier place. Thank you!
