Governor Cuomo- It's time to address the massive subway delays!

Dear Governor Cuomo,

Like millions of New Yorkers, I rely on the subway to get to and from work.  It is my primary form of transportation.  Over the last few months there has been a noticeable and troubling increase in the amount of excessive subway delays each day. As a working parent, each time there is a delay it costs me money- money I could be making as a small business owner and money that I have to pay for additional child care- not to mention the valuable time that I am losing away from my children. Yesterday what should have been a 20-25 minute commute took me 2.5 hours on the way to work and 1 hour and 45 minutes on the way home.  That is over 3 unnecessary hours spent stuck on a train when I could have been working or spending time with my family. Students missed graduation. Patients missed doctors appointments. Millions of people are impacted each and every day and the problem is only getting worse while our elected officials waste time disputing who is at fault.

As Governor, you have control of the MTA and therefore you are responsible to the millions of New Yorkers who depend on the subway to get to and from work and school each day. These delays have become unacceptable and excessive. Over the last few months there have been maybe 5 times in which I have not encountered delays of up to 15 minutes or more.  We urge you to immediately take action to address and correct this growing problem that seems to be routinely ignored all while the MTA continues to raise their fares on the backs of those of us trying to provide for our families. We need a mass transit system that we can depend on and currently it is failing us all. We are counting on your leadership to fix this long overdue problem.
