Security Officers Protection Act

Security officers are injured by attackers throughout the state and nationwide and current law in California only makes Battery against Security personnel a misdemeanor. I myself have been the victim of one of these attacks and recently a guard who works in the same company as I do was attacked by a homeless man and had it not been for 2 people that witnessed it and pulled the homeless man off the guard he could have been severly injured and police advised the guard that there was nothing they could do as it is only a misdemeanor. I believe if we can add Security to a current list of protected positions where if attacked those attacks are felonies. People identify Security with positions of authority and therefore makes Security Officers targets of attacks and even death.  Stricter laws I believe would help to at least sway or lessen attacks against security, or even help to get those people off the streets who can and do attack security officers and others. Help us to make laws more strict for those who seek to do harm against Security personnel.

Changing current law to make it a felony to assault a security officer.  Currently a police officer would have to witness the attack before the assault can be charged as a felony and some officers may except security camera footage to arrest, but in most areas a victim is out of luck.  We hire  security to enforce laws, issue court summons, protect people and properties then when we do, they are attacked and are told that the attack is only a misdemeanor and with current jail populations being overwhelmed most cities and counties won't even take the person, they issue a citation and tell the person to leave, with no concern they could and do return in most cases.

Please help me get these signatures to have our voices heard. You don't need to be a security officer to sign this petition, if you have a friend, child, parent, grandparent or just a neighbor, please help them by signing.
