Alan Gross is an American citizen who has been imprisoned in Cuba for more than three years.  He has lost more than 105 pounds and his health continues to decline. The United Nations has found he is being held in violation of international law.

Letter to
Government of Cuba President Raul Castro
Government of Cuba Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla
Government of the United States President Barack Obama
and 1 other
Government of the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
I am writing this letter to convey my serious concern regarding the wrongful conviction and ongoing imprisonment of an American citizen, Alan Gross. As you are aware, the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, an independent and impartial group consisting of experts from Chile, Norway, Pakistan, Senegal, and Ukraine, recently found he is being held in violation of international law.

Alan has been imprisoned in Cuba since December 2009 - sentenced to 15 years in prison for allegedly undermining the territorial sovereignty integrity of Cuba. In fact, Alan was helping to improve wireless access for the small, non-dissident Jewish community on the island. Alan’s work in the community and international development has positively impacted the lives of countless people in over 50 countries and territories worldwide.

He wants only the best for Cuba’s people. He had no intention of doing anything wrong. Yet, the Cuban justice system convicted him in a sham trial that put forth no evidence of his alleged crimes. As a result, Alan has been in prison almost three years and suffers from a series of health problems that are not being properly addressed by the Cuban government.

If President Castro of Cuba really wants better relations with the United States, as he says, he must immediately and unconditionally release Alan. I also call on President Obama to reach out to the Government of Cuba and take whatever actions are necessary to bring Alan home.

Alan has lost everything - his family, business, and reputation - while he awaits justice that has long been delayed. Alan is a father of two adult daughters, a husband, and a brother, and a fellow American. I stand united with his family until Alan gets back his freedom.
