The issue is that there are a lot of singal parents out there that earn a 'reasonable' salary. However they pay 40% tax and they received no maintenance this is unfair for people who are within the £50 to £90k salary. Currently you can have two parents, as a couple on £49,000each   who only pay the lower rate tax. It is unfair and unjust to penalise single parents when they have no financial assistance from the absent parent and the CMS are unable to recover maintenance payments. For the sake of the children something needs to be done to alleviate the pressure of having to bring up children on your own.. single parents can make a choice to sponge off the state but it is unfair when they choose to work and bring up a family and receive no benefit whatsoever when the system has failed to collect maintenance payments.
