My son has just turned ten and has been absent from school since a week before lockdown in March. He has had no face to face contact with any of his peers and very limited contact with family members due to various shielding circumstances.

He was so excited to return to school on Thursday, ok on Friday and really upset tonight (Sunday). Why? In a nut shell because of pressure from next years SAT’s.

My understanding is that year 6, in particular is a very intense year - due to the curriculum having to be taught in a shorter time frame to accommodate SAT’s. Therefore, one can only assume given that half of year fives teaching was compromised this too will have to be ‘caught up’ in this timeframe further adding to the pressure.

I’m not sure if he will go to school tomorrow and I certainly won’t force him into an environment of stress when we have been promised focus on nurture and care.

I ask you to support this campaign and reduce the stress on pupils, families and teachers by scrapping the upcoming SAT’s for years 2 and 6.

As a mother of three young boys who have each gone through the SAT’s assessment model I can tell you the stress is real and damaging. Ask yourself do we need this right now?  Do we need stress to compromise young immune systems whilst protecting our children from a virus causing a worldwide pandemic? I think not and ask you to please support this campaign sign and share. Thank you
