In December 1987, under the administration of President Corazon Aquino, the Manila International Airport was renamed after her late husband, Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., who was assassinated at the airport's tarmac in 1983.

RA 6639 was only 42 words - a straightforward legislation that simply wanted to rename the airport after Aquino. Thus, Aquino was never declared a hero and such does not deserve that an airport be named after him. He was clearly a politician and by naming the Philippine's main airport to his name is an insult to all Filipino heroes who died for the country and not for political ambition .

Now, the people of the Republic of the Philippines is urging the Philippine congress, through Senators as co-author, to repeal RA 6639 and rename NAIA back to its original Name Manila International Airport (MIA).
