According to Matt Hill (2019), The Philippines can suffer from deforestation more than any other country, not only in terms of forest loss, but also in the rate at which forests are being cut down. The loss and damage to forests is the source of about 10% of global warming. If we don't combat deforestation, there's just no way we can fight the climate crisis.

Iloilo is one of the most popular cities in the country. A lot of campaigns like this are going on, but they're not enough. This activity is difficult these days because of this pandemic, people are not allowed to gather to prevent the spread of the disease. Less forest coverage also means that the landscape is more vulnerable to environmental disasters such as typhoons, further exacerbating environmental damage in the region.

According to Conservation International, this extreme rate of deforestation means the Philippines ranks as the 4th most threatened forest hotspot in the world. Just in the last 100 years the Philippines has lost close to 10 million hectares of forest, taking it from some 70% forest coverage down to a mere 20%.
