Currently, the government is able to make changes to the student loan rates when and how they like. This creates an unstable environment for university students and graduates to repay their loan, and may dissuade future graduates ( likely to be from lower-income families ) from pursuing university education. This means by making student loan rates statute in the House of Commons, the changes will be debated, and the government can’t freeze rates at will, therefore creating a more stable and accessible environment for all students. They can put more trust in the government, and keep their focus on education rather than the extortionate fees they would have to pay. Education has come a long way in terms of accessibility, however I believe making student loan rates a debated issue in the House of Commons will create an even more accessible platform for students of all backgrounds to pursue their education, something I strongly feel everyone should have an opportunity for.
