Many parents and carers of children will have seen motorists without children parking in parent and child parking spaces, meaning that these designated bays aren’t available to the people who they are designed for.

The extra space around Parent & Child bays makes it a lot easier for getting children in and out of the car safely and for unloading pushchairs etc. Many standard car parking spaces aren’t large enough to do this easily or safely. 

This petition is campaigning for a parking badge scheme for Parents & Children, akin to the blue badge scheme, such that Parent & Child badges would need to be displayed when using Parent & Children Parking bays. 

To apply for a badge motorists would need to provide proof they have children (under 12 or in a car seat) and that they drive the vehicle. Badges could be linked to the number plate.
