Mesothelioma is a fatal condition which some people who have been exposed to asbestos fibres will develop.  It takes many decades for the condition to develop after the exposure to asbestos has taken place. The majority of mesotheliomas are caused by exposure to asbestos at work many years ago.  However, sometimes the condition is caused as a result of secondary exposure to asbestos.  This is typically a wife who washed her husband's asbestos contaminated work clothes in the 1960s or a child (now an adult, in view of the time lag) who used to hug their dad when he came home from work with asbestos dust on his clothing and body.

The law is very harsh in relation to obtaining civil compensation if the mesothelioma condition has developed as a result of secondary exposure to asbestos and often no compensation can be obtained for these innocent victims.  We want a Scheme to be set up by the Government which will provide a compensation payment to those suffering from mesothelioma as a result of secondary asbestos exposure if they fall within the circumstances where the law does not assist them and does not provide them with any compensation.  The law fails this group of people and this needs to be recognised and rectified as soon as possible.

Iris Craddock died from mesothelioma which she contracted as a result of washing her husband's asbestos contaminated work clothes.  The law was against Iris and is now against her family in relation to securing compensation.  Iris' family want to help others in a similar situation to ensure this injustice is changed.
