Open Regional Victoria Gym's NOW
Open Regional Victoria Gym's NOW
Today's press conference by Daniel Andrews was a slap in the face for the Gym Industry, not only did he do a u turn on his Pathway to Recovery plan which allowed Gym's to open under "Heavy Restrictions" he continued the unfounded "High Risk" comments that his CHO Brett Sutton made a week or so ago. Sutton later stated on radio that there were "no known cases attached to Gym's that he was aware of" and that his data came from "International Literature".
The total disregard for an Industry that was the first to be closed and, is now the last to open is nothing short of disgusting.
Gym's over most of Australia are OPEN with restrictions sure but, OPEN and not giving any problems so why not Victoria with Regional Victoria having reached Step 3?
Their own Government website clearly states that indoor Gym's would open in Step 3 although, they will now probably change that.
Below is an open letter that I would like to share far and wide, it is not only for Regional Victoria but Metro as well, we were ALL expecting to be allowed to open in step 3, there is no reason it should not happen with low case numbers, restricted travel it should be NOW NOT LATER MR ANDREWS.
If you believe Gym's should be open now then please read my letter and sign this petition, not just for me but for all those who are suffering because of the decision made today
Open Letter to The Premier- Dan Andrews
I am writing to you as a Father, the father of a son who is about to lose his Business in an Industry that you continue to discredit with unfounded comments of them being “High Risk”.
I am talking about the Gym Industry, the only Industry to be completely ignored and disregarded in your Pathway speech today.
Both your and Professor Sutton’s previous comments about Gym’s being “High Risk” are based on what? Brett Sutton has openly admitted that there are no known cases from Gyms and that his comments are based on “International Literature”.
My Son, his wife and 3 kids moved from NSW at the end of 2019 and in the early part of 2020 purchased a Gym in Sale Victoria only to be closed a few Months later due to Covid.
They understood this and used the closed period to ensure all hygiene and cleaning practices as required were in place ready for the reopening, in fact they went above and beyond any requirements to ensure the safety and health of their clients.
Swipe card entry to log all clients with dates and times just in case anything was to happen, the highest of cleaning of machines after each use and anything else that could be done was done.
The reopening was a great success with everyone commenting on the measures taken, distancing, cleaning, sanitising etc etc but, this was short lived, two weeks later they had to close again.
It was with much apprehension that I sat and listened to your press conference today regarding the Step 3 advancement for Regional Victoria. Especially as your own stated Pathways Plan said Indoor Gym’s could reopen in Step 3 with “heavy restrictions” but what happened? You completely back flipped and once more put Gym’s to the bottom of your list with your comments saying, “outside” only.
Gym”s cannot pick up their equipment like tables and chairs and take them outside like cafes or other venues, many are fixed items that just cannot be moved.
You made commitments in your Pathways Plan for inside Gym’s to open and now, you are crushing not only my Son and his family but, all other Gym owners in both Regional and Metro areas who also thought step 3 would be the date to open. Gym’s can handle “heavy restrictions” they can handle and will comply with any measures required, they have already proven this in the last opening. What they cannot handle is being continuously slated by comments that have NO FOUNDATION.
The Gym Industry, especially in our Regional and Rural Communities are as much a part of the essential services as you consider dog grooming, eye tattoo and beauty salons to be, in fact they contribute so much more in the health and wellbeing both mental and physical, to those that use them.
I do not know how much longer My son can continue with this uncertainty, not only him but all the other Gym’s that have nowhere to go now so I am asking you to reconsider your stance on Gym’s, give them “Heavy Restrictions” as outlined in your pathway plans but please, let them open like the majority of Businesses in Regional Victoria.
I am writing this not only as Father is very concerned for the future of my son and his family but as someone who just cannot understand why this one Industry is so maligned when all they do is care for the people they work with.
Please act soon to get Gym’s open before we lose them.
