Provide Proper Mental Health Education In Schools

Mental Health is one of the biggest challenges in any persons life. So why is it that there is so little education about it across Australia. Mindfulness is being encouraged at schools such as mine, however I strongly believe that the topics that are being discussed are not relevant or could be observed in a better way.
It is a known fact that every 1 out of 5 Australians are diagnosed with a mental health condition. That means that over 20% of school students are suffering from mental health problems.
Schools educate students on what feeling anxiety Is but not the disorder itself. Many students have a strong misunderstanding on what mental health is, and many find it hard to communicate with and understand those who have a mental illness. Schools should explain the causes and effects, they should explain how mental health is not contagious. They should teach children how to throw to cope, and the methods and strategies they can use. They should educate how people can support others with a mental illness and how they can identify emotions.
I personally believe that it is crucial that students and children have a better understanding to prevent bullying, misunderstandings and to set them for a better and stronger future!
